45 spin the bottle

The Shrine

The last two day's photos are from one event, Lucent L'amour, a "Visionary Love Fest". I really wasn't sure what to expect, but it ended up being a great night. There were DJ's and performances throughout the night at the Shrine, a pretty huge venue on USC's campus. There were live art acts, standing galleries, costumes, performers on stilts, sculptures, a "free hug" booth, interactive exhibits, among others.

This was one of the most unique ideas, although I probably have a list of 30 unique ideas from the fest. It was a gigantic bottle, ridden like a mechanical bull at Saddle Ranch, to play a life-sized game of Spin-the-bottle. Unfortunately, I only observed and didn't get close enough to partake.

Oh yeah, Happy Valentine's Day!

43 curves

Disney Concert Hall, Downtown LA

I went to visit Alex after work today. He has been working at a high school near downtown LA for a while now, but I didn't realize how close it really was. The school itself is brand new (sidenote: it's where they film the Jonas Brothers show) and has a great view of the skyline. After chatting with one of his students and getting a personal tour of campus, we walked a few blocks uphill, to the Disney Concert Hall.

The hall was designed by Frank Gehry, of Bilbao's Guggenheim and Chicago's Jay Pritzker Pavilian (Millenium Park), and is truly a marvel to look at. The curves of the building fit together so well and I hear the acoustics in hall are insanely crisp and clean (I have yet to attend a concert).

There's a public park area adjacent to the building that we spent time exploring and taking plenty of pictures. There are a couple more shots of the building and Alex in my photostream.

42 hello hearts

I hadn't eaten these in years. We often get businesses that come in and promote their service at our office. One in particular always gives us candy, usually seasonal. So, now I have a jar of candy hearts sitting on my desk. They're just as sugary and tasteless as I remember. The only difference now is that about 10% of the hearts have legible writing. Others are faded or smeared. That, and there are some that read "LOL" and "U Go Girl". Really?

40 not a golfer

Alhambra Lanes

I love "The Big Lebowski". I also love bowling. So, when my friend asked me to join her company's bowling league, how could I refuse? This is not your father's or The Dude's bowling league, however. It's at Lucky Strike in downtown LA's new nighttime area, LA Live. The lights are kept low, leather couches replace plastic chairs, drinks are on special, and loud club music adds an extra obstacle to your perfect game. But, tonight was practice. I trotted over to Alhambra to meet half the team, enjoy some 2 dollar games and Newcastles. All was well, until the next evening when UPS gave us hell.

32 lazy couch dogs

lazy couch dogs, originally uploaded by sulalala.

Oh, Hodu. Such a cute little pup. I almost feel bad for putting him through this little photo shoto. He was taking a nap on the pillow on the couch and I just had to disturb his slumber for my photo.

This was my first attempt at a clone and I think it turned out decently. I need to experiment a little bit more because I think my settings may have been slightly off. I'll try not to disturb Hodu next time.
